Interesting – date? Ross farm seems to have been located further inland, at about NX645443 on the track up to the Bents, the present farm on the Ross/ Balmangan Bay was Meikle Ross on the 1854 map, but doesn’t appear on this one. But the field-dykes are strikingly similar.
A well is marked at what I take to be Rockvale, and there are some intriguing little lines projecting from the shore – a curve like that of the jetty, and a rectangle like the ‘swimming pool’ in Rachel’s photo? A fresh water source at that spot would have been useful for passing vessels, there was probably some sort of landing place there before the present arrangements were built.
