The planned site works are a data acquisition exercise which will lead to a better understanding of the current condition and load carrying capacity of the bridge. On completion, Dumfries and Galloway Council will be more informed about the asset, to such an extent that a detailed forward management strategy can be developed. This will be centred on prolonging the life of this vital structure, whilst continuing to maintain bridge and public safety.
The site works will require a full closure of the bridge from 8 am to 6 pm commencing on the 22nd of October 2024 for 4 days. This corresponds with the school holidays. The closure is necessary on safety grounds which are linked to the need to use rope access methods to undertake a detailed visual and tactile inspection of every part of the bridge.
