Update from SP Energy Networks about out electricity supply network:
We are now expecting increased wind speeds tomorrow, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour in a north westerly direction. While the network is designed to withstand challenging weather conditions, a change of wind direction away from the prevailing can increase the risk of faults.
To address this, we have:
Enhanced Monitoring: Our teams are closely monitoring forecasts to track wind patterns and direction.
On-Standby Teams: Additional teams are positioned and ready to respond swiftly to any faults, ensuring we can restore power as quickly as possible.
Preventative Measures: Our vegetation management and ongoing maintenance work have strengthened network resilience across the area.
We remain committed to maintaining a reliable service for communities and will act proactively to minimise disruption.
Our advice to customers experiencing a power cut
> Stay warm by keeping extra blankets nearby and closing your window shutters, blinds, or curtains to help keep the heat in and the draught out
> Keep your fridge and freezer doors closed as much as possible. The food in your freezer should stay frozen for up to 48 hours
> Beware of fallen power lines. Power lines may fall due to high winds so beware when venturing out of your home. Do not approach them, call 105 to report a fallen power line
> All customers without power are encouraged to call our helpline on 105. This number is free and connects directly to our team.
Prepare in Advance
*Ensure you have a mobile phone charged, with a power bank available if possible.
*Keep a torch, batteries, warm clothing, and blankets on hand.
*Check on elderly or vulnerable individuals in your community who may need assistance.
