Following my email from 22 August announcing the new Q and A on the region’s bus network, I’m writing to share an update.
We’ve been working closely with SWestrans and local operators to respond to feedback and support service enhancements where possible.
SWestrans and the council would like to thank all the operators running subsidised and commercial services in the region for their flexibility and collaboration as we continue working together to improve the bus network.
As a result, the following improvements have been made.
D1 and D10 Dumfries town services
Houston’s Coaches have split the merged D1/D2 and D10/D12 services back into separate routes:
- D1
- D2
- D10
- D12
Updated timetables are now available here: Bus services 1 to 95 – from 7 August 2025 | Dumfries and Galloway Council
D8 Cargenbridge to Dumfries
Houston’s Coaches have introduced an 08.25 service from Cargenbridge to enable secondary school pupils to travel to school in the morning.
236 Dumfries (Heathall, Kirkton, Auldgirth, Closeburn) to Penpont
To support Wallace Hall Academy pupils not entitled to free school transport, DGC Buses has introduced an extra morning service on the 236 route from Dumfries. This temporary measure will ease pressure caused by high demand until a permanent solution is found.
246 Dumfries (Lochside, Hollywood, Auldgirth, Closeburn) to New Cumnock
This is a commercial bus route operated by McCalls Coaches. We understand there are timing issues affecting some pupils travelling from Kirkconnel and Kelloholm to Sanquhar Academy. We are working with bus operators and the local school to find interim and permanent solutions.
We are also aware of issues along the A76 corridor for pupils travelling to Wallace Hall Academy using commercial bus services. We are working with the operator and DGC Buses to find a solution for all pupils, whether they are entitled to school transport or not.
