Gorse Clearing at Barn Heugh – Thursday, 28th November

We have received this information from Liam Templeton from Species on the Edge, about a work party to clear gorse from Barn Heugh, near Kirkandrews on Thursday, 28th November.

Join us for a day of practical conservation with the goal of improving the habitat of one of Scotland’s rarest and most threatened butterflies – the northern brown argus. We will be selectively removing gorse scrub to benefit common rock-rose – the sole food plant of the northern brown argus caterpillar.

No experience necessary. Hand tools and personal protective equipment will be provided on the day. Please wear warm, weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Please also consider bringing a packed lunch and hot drink. We will meet opposite Kirkandrew’s Kirk (///tangling.defrost.walnuts) and walk approximately 1.5km to the site. Please be aware that parking is extremely limited. Please consider lift-sharing wherever possible.
