Launch for Short Story Competition

Young writers in Dumfries and Galloway are invited to take part in this Flash Fiction short story competition. The free competition is part of the upcoming annual Kirkcudbright Book Week, which runs between 3 and 9 March 2025, and is being organised by the Kirkcudbright Book Week Society and Dumfries and Galloway Council through Kirkcudbright Library, in Daar Road.

Flash Fiction stories have the usual beginning, middle and end, but are not as long as traditional stories, and they can take any theme. The categories are:

9-10 years old     500 words top limit

11-12 years old   500 words top limit

13-15 years old   650 words top limit

Presentation for the winners will be announced at an event held at 7pm at the library on Thursday March 6, bringing a close to events organised by the library and Kirkcudbright Book Week Society for young writers and readers to mark World Book Day.

Closing date is 10 February 2025.
