Applications for Free School Meals

Free school meals

You can now apply for a free school meal if your child is in primary 6 or primary 7 as long as you receive Scottish Child Payment and don’t receive one of the following benefits:

  • Income support.
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance.
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • Universal Credit, if your earned income is not more than £796 per month.
  • Child Tax Credit, if your income is less than £19,995 per year.
  • Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, if your income is not more than £9,552 per year.

If you only receive Scottish Child Payment, not one of the benefits listed above, you are only eligible for a free school meal. This means you would not be eligible for a school clothing grant or holiday food payments.

You can apply for free school meals via our website and you will be notified if you are successful.

Please do not apply if your child is currently receiving a free school meal or holiday food payment.
