You can now apply for a free school meal if your child is in primary 6 or primary 7 as long as you receive Scottish Child Payment and don’t receive one of the following benefits:
- Income support.
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance.
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
- Universal Credit, if your earned income is not more than £796 per month.
- Child Tax Credit, if your income is less than £19,995 per year.
- Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, if your income is not more than £9,552 per year.
If you only receive Scottish Child Payment, not one of the benefits listed above, you are only eligible for a free school meal. This means you would not be eligible for a school clothing grant or holiday food payments.

Please do not apply if your child is currently receiving a free school meal or holiday food payment.
