Free family craft activities for Thursdays in Summer holidays 2025

Each Thursday, drop in between 11am and 3pm Join us to explore museum stories and have some creative fun this summer. From Thursday 10 July and continuing every Thursday through the summer holidays, there will be craft activities at Dumfries Museum with a different theme each week. These activities are free and there is no need to book, just drop in between 11am and 3pm.

Thursday 10 July Fire Mark Plaques
Discover the stories behind the fire marks in Dumfries Museum decorated with sun and phoenix designs and design your own to take away.

Thursday 17 July Bronze Age Pots
Explore the miniature pots from the Bronze Age in our displays, then work with clay to make your own. You can also handle some prehistoric artefacts.

Thursday 24 July Roman Badges
Find out about the designs of badges worn by Roman soldiers and make your own decorated metal badge to take away. We will also have Roman artefacts to explore.

Thursday 31 July Sea-inspired Treasure Boxes
Decorate your own miniature box to keep shells or other trinkets in.

Thursday 7 August Shabti Figures
Discover the Ancient Egyptian shabti figures in the museum and create your own to take home.

Thursday 14 August Gas Masks and Flags
As we mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, there will be a chance to handle wartime artefacts including children’s experiences from the time, and make an evacuee’s gas mask, label and flag to take away.
