Autism Friendly Sketching at The Museum
Saturday 5 July | 10am – 12pm
Join us for a sketching workshop using our current exhibition, The Ever Changing, Changeless Sea as our focus. This relaxed session is designed to be a welcoming space for children with autism to explore drawing at their own pace.
All materials are provided, and no experience is needed. Parents and carers are required stay with their child throughout the session.
It’s a great way to enjoy a calm, creative morning together – and best of all, it’s free!
Children’s Sketching Workshop
Saturday 12 July | 10am – 12pm & 2pm – 4pm
Join us for a sketching workshop using our current exhibition, The Ever Changing, Changeless Sea as our focus. There will be a variety of sea related objects available for you to look at and you can also take inspiration from our exhibition and displays.
We aim to find confidence using only the basic materials of pen, pencils and crayons and then from here to take our basic materials anywhere to do a quick sketch. We will take time to observe an object, become confident in drawing a quick image, understand our natural style, experiment with aspects like which size of paper suits us best with nothing as right or wrong.
No prior experience needed. All equipment will be provided.
Free, no need to book.
Parents and carers will need to stay with children. This activity would be suitable for children aged over 3.

Don’t forget your museum stamp passport!
If your child received one through school, be sure to bring it with you to collect the Dumfries Museum stamp.
If not, just ask at the front desk – we’ll be happy to give you one!
