Have your say on the council’s budget priorities
Like councils nationwide, Dumfries and Galloway Council faces difficult financial choices in the years ahead. Rising costs and growing demand for services mean every pound must stretch further, while funding isn’t keeping pace.
To help explain the challenge – and gather views on what matters most to our region’s communities – we’ve launched our Budget Challenge as part of this year’s Budget Consultation 26/27.
The Budget Challenge is an interactive online tool that lets you explore how savings and income generation could help balance the council’s budget. You can adjust digital sliders, including one for Council Tax, to see how different decisions could affect overall spending.
The main Budget Consultation survey will launch on Friday 17 October and run until Sunday 23 November, inviting people across Dumfries and Galloway to consider a range of savings and income-generation options before councillors make decisions in February 2026.
It’s not easy – but it’s important. The tool helps show the tough decisions councillors must weigh up when setting a balanced budget.
Your input will help inform councillors’ discussions and decisions when the council’s budget for 2026/27 is set in February.
