Herewith my thoughts on Carleton and Earlston.
Rachel – the ones I have lists for that remain to be done in Borgue parish are High and Low Chapelton, and Culraven.
I’ve looked at Auchenhay, Balmangan, Barlocco, Blackcraig, Boreland, Borgue House, Borness, Cairniehill, Corseyard, Gledpark, High Borgue, Ingleston, L Plunton, Margrie, Rattra, Roberton, Ross, and Upper Senwick. If you have others, or amended versions of ones I’ve worked on, I’ll be happy to see them. I’ve also done notes on Rainton, and have lists to work on for Cally Mains and Ingleston in Twynholm, all adjacent to Borgue parish.
Nic – thanks very much for that copy of Scottish Local History with a couple of very interesting and useful articles in it, and for the copy of the transript of Murray vs Thomson – that’s fascinating, every male householder in Gatehouse, Anwoth and Kirkandrews seems to have been called as a witness by one or other of the parties, so there are lots of names of houses, as well as references to locations around the two fords and along the disputed access routes to them, as well as a good leet of local personal names at that time. Will you want me to return the journal? Or indeed the copies of the court proceedings?
All the best
Alan
