Galloway Glens Place Names Project

Over the course of 2018 and 2019, the Galloway Glens Place Names Officer Gilbert Márkus and Professor Thomas Clancy from Glasgow University studied place-names along the Dee Valley, how they are formed and what they can tell us about our landscape. The project was sponsored by the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership via the Heritage Lottery Fund and by Glasgow University.

You can read more about the project on the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership web site and on the project’s web page at Glasgow University.

The project provided a web interface to access to data and this has been used to access and display the information using the borgue.org mapping software. It can be viewed here.
