From Alan James – 25 October 2021
I’ll attach some notes on High Boreland, copying David into this conversation as I know he’s interested in them from the point of view of Tongland. While the Bordland itself, and neighbouring Culdoach are interesting as potential clues to the medieval geography between Kirkcudbright and the Doachs, the field-names are mostly likely to be recent (indeed, predominantly English in form rather than Scots); I don’t see any hints of ecclesiastical interests, rather a wedge of secular lordship between the lands of Dundrennan and those across the Dee likely to be associated with Tongland. I’ll have a look at Park of Tongland next, as it follows on geographically.
All the best
Alan
