John Mactaggart

John Mactaggart (1800-1830) was born in Borgue. He is best known as the author of ‘The Scottish Gallovidian Encyclopedia‘ (1824). This includes the poem ‘The Parish of Borgue’. He was also an accomplished engineer, involved in the construction of the Rideau Canal in Canada. He is buried in Senwick Kirkyard
